Ernest Guy (1877-1949)
sans date

This painting is by artist Ernest Guy, a native of the Jura. Guy studied engraving at the École d’art appliqués à l’industrie in La Chaux-de-Fonds and, after four years at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, returned to Neuchâtel mountains teach drawing. This oil on canvas depicts a woman kneeling from behind, her arms gracefully raised, wearing a light, transparent dress. She greets the light appearing on the horizon shortly before sunrise. Guy’s work captivates with its warm color palette and invites contemplation. This piece was presented at MBAL as part of the exhibition la scia del monte ou les utopistes magnétiques (2024), in dialogue with the Monte Verità historical archive.
