Make your own fanzine from A to Z with Chantal Peguiron from the La bûche collective!
Chantal Peguiron is an illustrator from Fribourg. She graduated from the École des arts appliqués in Geneva in 2013, and is continuing her training in visual communications in Lausanne. Passionate about esotericism, she draws her inspiration from this universe to create her works, mainly in watercolour. Fascinated by myths and folklore, she also enjoys reading fantasy novels. As a member of the Swiss comics association La bûche, Chantal stays in touch with the Swiss comics scene. Alongside her artistic activity, Chantal shares her expertise by offering watercolour and manga comic strip classes in Fribourg.
La bûche, a collective fanzine launched in 2015 based on the observation that comics was still a predominantly male field, aims to raise the profile of female comics artists in French-speaking Switzerland and bring them together. Around the annual fanzine, with a free theme, themed special issues, exhibitions, workshops and performances take place throughout the year. It has now grown into an informal, dynamic and effective network of nearly a hundred female comic artists from all backgrounds, levels and styles, with a strong sense of mutual support, sisterhood and friendship. It is coordinated by half a dozen female artists who give their all passionately to the projects that are set up. Based in Lausanne, La bûche has its origins and its centre in the canton of Vaud, as well as a strong link with BDFIL, the festival being the annual venue for the presentation of publications. La bûche has helped to make the comics landscape in French-speaking Switzerland much more egalitarian, thanks to the multitude of projects that have been carried out, their impact and the way they have been received by the public and institutions, especially festivals, all in a constructive and artistic spirit. Many of the women who work in the field say they owe their entry into the professional comics world to this network, as well as their increased self-confidence in facing up to the pitfalls of an artistic field that is still largely undervalued.
