“The title of this reading is borrowed from the writer Monique Wittig. Her invitation to remember never leaves me, but how can we find the lives of those who too often disappear without a trace, how can we remember what has never been told to us? In January 2023, I went to meet the American photographer Donna Gottschalk, I plunged into her images which testify to the life of gay, lesbian and transgender people in the United States in the 1970s. But the archive is full of holes and I decided to fill in the gaps with a story. So, when I can’t remember, when the archive is too full of gaps, I will invent.”
Hélène Giannecchini is a writer and theorist. She has a doctorate in literature and specializes in the relationship between text and images.
