Known primarily as a medalist in the region, Huguenin – who came from a family of watchmakers in Le Locle – was fascinated by the human figure, particularly by the theme of childhood. His personal works, notably his pastels and pencil studies, were born from observations of his own children but tend toward the universal. These models seek to capture the right attitude and gesture, evoking both emotion and tenderness. In La page d’écriture (The Written Page), the motif echoes traditional Western iconography of a mother teaching her child.
This work was also presented at MBAL during the exhibition Le plaisir du texte (2023).
